Switching from “SUS304” to “SUS821L1.”
A Value Analysis proposal unique to SEIKOH.
Creating Japanese-style bath spaces beloved by hotels and ryokans. For the waterproof base bathtubs that support these spaces, we completely reexamined the design of conventional products and succeeded in achieving significant cost savings and weight reduction by unlocking the potential of a new material. We pursued a finish that meets our customers’ latent needs.
SEIKOH’s Solution
Moving Beyond Conventional “SUS304” and Introducing a New Proposal
“SUS304” has traditionally been a common material for waterproof base bathtubs in Japanese-style baths due to its high strength. Although the client did not request any particular changes to the specifications for this project, we proposed replacing it with “SUS821L1,” a higher-strength duplex stainless steel.
Higher Strength Leads to Less Reinforcement and Lower Weight
The greatest feature of “SUS821L1” is its high strength, which far exceeds that of conventional “SUS304.” This made it possible to significantly reduce the number of reinforcements that had previously been essential. Reducing the overall product weight not only lowered material costs, but also created value by improving workability during on-site installation.
Leveraging the Magnetism of Duplex Stainless Steel to lower processing costs
Because “SUS821L1” is magnetic, we switched from the conventional screw-fastening method to a magnetic fastening system for securing inspection hatches and other components. This made it possible to eliminate drilling processes altogether, reducing processing costs.
SEIKOH’s engineering goes beyond simply making what is requested. We take one step further to maximize our customers’ benefits.
